Just a fun little hat

I had so much fun knitting this little hat! It was a step up from the plain knitting I had done for the past few months, but not too hard for my brain to handle right now.
I did the ribbing* as a 1x1 rib with a twisted knit stitch to make it look a bit more interesting and then broke up the plain stockinette top with single purl rows to make those little lines. I really like how it turned out. It looks interesting but is simple enough to actually be wearable, even for men.

* is that the right word? I used to call it the brim, but it seems I was wrong about that. Ravelry made a note on one of my patterns because I said it was a brimmed hat, but it just had large ribbing. What is the word I should have used for that part that fits around your ears?

  1. a brim here is part of a hat that juts out (like a fedora hat or a baseball cap). The ribbing is called ribbing I guess. I knew what you meant when you said brim for ribbing so someone is being picky about language.

    1. Well, it was for the ravelry search, so I think they were right to change it. I just never realized it was the wrong word. But now I know (never too old to learn)

  2. Agree with Karen, in the States brim is used for bill on hats, but I think brim is fine in your usage.

    1. I know it's fine, but these are the little mistakes that show I'm not a native speaker, so I don't mind learning that it's not the right word.
