A hat that makes me happy

After weeks of not knitting one stitch, I suddenly got an itch to pick up my knitting last Monday. So I dug out the hat I started almost two months ago. I worked on it during the day and I had a nice window of uninterrupted knitting time at night when some mysterious orange lights in the distance inspired my husband to listen to Jeff Wayne's War of the World. Yes, we're nerds like that ;-)
But it was nice. Just half an hour on Tuesday to finish it and then I was done.
It's just a simple hat, actually, and it doesn't even really fit me (it's kind of big), but it makes me so happy.

When life is hard and stressful, knitting helps me to relax, but when I slip into a real depression (you know, the chemical imbalance in your head), I usually stop knitting. Being back at it definitely is a sign that I'm getting better.
And that's why I love this simple, oversized hat.

  1. Maggie,
I like your hat and I too have began to knit again since last spring (I have been handstitching and embroidering instead)...after believing I must knit daily. Does it get cold enough to wear hats where you are presently living?
And I laughed aloud with your comment about the at music...I only hear the lovely music when I am cleaning. It would be a panicky scream if rats were under my sink. Been there and done that in those years of remodeling🙄.

    1. No, it's never cold enough here to wear hats, but I really like to make them. Most of them I give away. I will need one though when we go to visit our family in the Netherlands in December.

  2. Glad you are in a better place. I am just starting a hat for a friend going through chemo, hoping the mink and cashmere make a soft hat next to her scalp. And it's in purple to show what a rock star she is! Hey, she once dyed her hair purple for a concert, so I thought it fitting.

  4. What a simple yet lovely little hat. I will definitely be making several of these; some to give and some to keep. Just discovered your blog and have enjoyed skimming through it. I completely understand your conflict with not feeling like blogging or posting on Instagram. I go through those periods, too. I've been in an extended hiatus and miss it, but not sure what the draw is to come back unless I've changed my mindset about it. Anyway, I can relate. :)
I hope you have a lovely day,
    Shani

    1. Thank you for understanding. I sometimes feel like I'm the only one not able to just keep blogging, but it's good to know other people have the same ups and downs ;-)
