Knitting and reading - Bitter & Sweet
Knitting:
The
I finished two squares for the potholders and decided to crochet the other two squares, but I regret that choice. Somehow knitting feels more relaxing and soothing than crocheting. But I'll finish these now.
*edited to add: I was wondering why I got comments about a cowl. Oh, I see. My mistake. It's a poncho, not a cowl.
Reading:
I've read books by Jenny Colgan before, and I liked all of them. Just simple feelgood stories, but interesting enough to keep reading.
In "Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop of Dreams" Rosie temporarily moves from London to the country to help her great aunt Lilian sell her sweet shop and move to a home. It turns out the sweet shop hasn't been open for years, but to sell it for a good price (they need the money to pay for the home), she needs to get it in business again. Of course, that doesn't go really smoothly. There are some classic but funny 'city dweller moves to countryside' incidents, she meets a few interesting men and makes friends along the way. Through flashbacks, we also get a bit of insight into Lilian's past.
Such a sweet story! (pun unintended at first, but I kinda like it, so I decided to keep it).

The Jenny Colgan books sound like great evening reading, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThey are!
DeletePretty yarn you are using. I've been doing some endless garter stitch, but it seems to be exactly what I need at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI love that yarn too. It was a thrift store find, but it's really beautiful.
DeleteAnd yes, sometimes endless knitting is good, I like how it helps me to think, but right now I need my knitting to take my mind off things.
Mindless stockinette can be so boring. But, sometimes that boring-ness is just the perfect thing - and that yarn is truly amazing!
ReplyDeleteJenny Colgan sounds like an interesting read! Thank you so much for joining us today!
Yes, boring can be good, but I find these days it makes me worry (because my mind wanders). Thanks for hosting!
DeleteThe cowl will be lovely and the book sounds like a perfect summer read...I'm knitting, at times, a blanket - log cabin style - in garter stitch...it'll definitely be a "forever"project but is good to have for when I plop in the chair and watch the news, etc...
ReplyDeleteOh yes, knitting such simple projects is perfect for watching tv or something like that.
DeleteThe cowl is coming along nicely. Sometimes mindless knitting is not engaging enough and sometimes it is just right. I hope you find the sweet spot.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to. I like mindless knitting when I have someone to talk to or when I'm watching videos. But I don't want to be able to start worrying too much.
Deletebummer about the blocking of content, I wonder why that is happening. I hope you are able to find ebooks somewhere. The cowl/poncho is fantastic no matter what it is :)
ReplyDeleteEuropean rules, I'm afraid... I hope to find a solution.
DeleteNice knits! I sometimes love having a lot of stockinette, and other times it bores me to death (probably why I always have two or more things on needles!)
ReplyDeleteI used to be a single project knitter, but right now I tend to have more on the needles too. Stockinette can be great, but I also need something that's a bit more challenging.
