Out of Africa

On my pile of things to make there was some fabric that I brought from South-Africa last year. It was about time to do something with it.
The fabric on top is a way too big for me apron, that I cut up and made a skirt off first. But it had a weird fit and you could see right through it. So I cut it up again and made an apron that will fit me.

The white fabric with the panels was easy to decide what to make with them. Bags, of course. It's quite heavy fabric, so I just used my serger and didn't line them. Simple but useful.

The last piece of fabric... oh my. What was I thinking when I bought it? The fabric was really synthetic (not cotton -I thought it was) and the print is giant. I had no idea what to do with it, until I spread it out on the table to look at it and figure something out. Duh! Tablecloths. I had just enough to make two. A little hemming and done.

The pile has shrunk again. Now I really need to work on those quilts...

A skirt

Really simple wrap skirt, I just traced a skirt I already had (and lengthened it a bit). I like it.

I picked up a simple sewing task. But choosing the right button turned out to be harder then I thought...

So right now I am

Some time ago my parents gave me a bag full of embroidery from my grandmother (she died years ago). She loved cross stitch. The house was filled with cross stitch pictures and her couch (and ours) was filled with cross stitch pillow.
In the bag were some unfinished pieces. She wasn't able to do the finer work when she got older. I think she started this to give to my sister who loved horseback riding (she still does and her daughter too). I'm going to try and finish it.

Of course I liked that pattern. So I'm already done with it. I like hats like this. Rather simple and still not boring. Too bad the yarn is too fuzzy to actually see the fake cabling in the border. Next time (there will be a next time, no doubt about that) I'll use different yarn.

In my knitting basket

This used to be my knitting basket, but the cat decided it's his place to sleep and he's not amused (understatement) when I try to get to my knitting.
So I decided it was time to find myself a new basket. Not an easy task, since I needed something with a lid to prevent the cat from moving his naps into my knitting.

I found the perfect one and it's already quite full, since I had a case of startitis.

The purple cardigan I started last december. It's coming to an end, but I wanted to work on something else too (I heard that helps with the pain in my hands).

Soulemama released a new hat pattern. And since I loved the other one so much, I had to try this one asap.

I found this real wool at the thriftstore, two colors of the same brand. I want to make a sweater from it. For me. Again. I know, so selfish.

But this one will be for my husband. I am planning to make a sweater for every one, but I'm not sure that will really happen.

I also am into crochet again. I'm not very good at it, but I like making granny squares. And I loved these colors together, so I decided to make a giant granny to make a spread for our bed. I have my work cut out for me for a while...

Also in the basket: a zippered pouch a dear internet friend send me, that I use to hold my notions.
